COVID-19 Fixed Cost Structured Debriefing Workshop!
Background
The global pandemic that is COVID-19 has negatively impacted every business on the planet bar a relatively few exceptions. So unless you happen to be involved in the manufacture or sale of PPE, what follows is for you.
The all important factor in this evolving pandemic is the timeline. At time of publication it is 15th June 2020 and what follows this date is unknown. How long it may continue, will there be a second or third wave, when will a vaccine be made available to the world, will economies collapse or mutations form? More pressing might be when can your kids get back to school? The answer to all these things will be revealed in time, time that is crucial to your organisation’s survival. What you do, or don’t do next may decide that fate.
Research suggests less than 40% of businesses plan to conduct any debriefing of their preparation for pandemic while less than 60% plan to carry out a debrief of their response and recovery to COVID-19.
- Don’t have the skills internally to perform an effective debrief.
- Don’t know what methodology to follow.
- Don’t have the time.
All the above are very common and understandable. At Assured GRC we see the enormous effort and determination that businesses and their employees give to their cause. Which is why its all the more harder when great businesses don’t survive.
If you take nothing more away from reading this page it should be that the structured debrief is an instrument to help manage an active incident to allow you to make the right choices and corrections in a live situation. It is NOT a post incident activity to be filed away and never looked at again.
Discover why Assured GRC’s 2 hour fixed cost workshop might be your saviour.

Why debrief COVID-19 now and other FAQ’s
The government has just announced that shops will begin to open from 15th June for non-essential items and schools are returning in very limited capacity. New Zealand has announced it has no cases of COVID-19 in the country, so things are looking up? Beijing announces a new spike in cases, global stock markets are reacting to the possibility of a second wave. The only thing that’s certain is we just don’t know what’s around the corner and that this is an evolving incident.
When is the right time to debrief?
If you’re not already doing it then now. Structured debrief is a technique used for live and rapidly changing situations to address mistakes or changes in the field. It’s lessons learned for the live incident not just the next time. As the incident moves from one stage to the next and the months pass, memory of the context at the time fades and valuable lessons learned may be lost which is why its important to debrief as the situation evolves.
Business is starting to get back to work, would it be better to focus on core activities and wash up later?
A structured debrief will support your business in getting back to its core activities. It will also help you avoid unnecessary bumps in the road and possibly unseen catastrophic events to your business or people. It is still to early to say how far we are into events and how long the timeline will be.
If I debrief now will I have to do it again later?
Absolutely, we recommend repeating the exercise periodically as we evolve through each stage of the pandemic, this may be more or less depending on the nature of your business. That’s why we also offer a discounted block of four workshops. Invoiced as you go.
Pressure on senior management decision making and liability
In the early stages of COVID-19 all businesses had strict rules imposed on them and decisions were taken at a government level but with restrictions lifting there is significant pressure on senior management to protect its people and stay in business. Making the right informed choices has never been more critical, emphasising even more need to debrief effectively.
Isn’t it a bit late to worry about pandemic preparations after the event?
Preparations prior to the pandemic can provide useful insight to your response and recovery and can highlight other elements of your BCP and communications planning that can be improved. The earlier this activity is performed the more fresh it will be in peoples minds.
